About YCLI -
the Youth Civic Leadership Institute
The Dole Institute created and sponsors, at no charge to participants, the summer Youth Civic Leadership Institute which hosts 50 high school seniors from across Kansas.
Soon-to-be high school seniors are recommended by hometown administrators and selected by the Dole Institute.
This 3-day program includes public service learning activities, leadership lectures, meetings with legislators in Topeka and overnights in a KU residence hall on campus.
The Dole Institute began this youth leadership program in 2006 and provides the program at no charge.
Information for the annual Youth Civic Leadership Institute is sent to all Kansas High Schools in March. Principals and counselors may nominate one or two students to attend that year's YCLI. If you are a current junior and you are interested in being nominated, please visit with your school Principal or counselor because they make the nominations.
Students and school administrators are invited to learn more about this program by contacting Barbara Ballard, Dole Institute Associate Director .
The Youth Civic Leadership program is offered with the understanding that “it is in our nation’s best interest that our youth not only become familiar with our system of government, but also explore the variety of opportunities for public service and the potential for developing their leadership.”
